Three Americans who disappeared in Baghdad last weekend were taken from their interpreter’s apartment, Fox News reports.
The Americans were invited to the apartment in the Dora neighborhood. They were then kidnapped and taken to Sadr City where any communication with the Americans had ceased.
All three contractors worked at the Baghdad International Airport. One is believed to be an Iraqi-American woman by the name of Russel Furat while the two men have been identified as Iraqi-American Wael al-Mahdawy and Egyptian-American Amro Mohammed.
Secretary of State John Kerry told Fox News that ‘We are in very direct contact with the Iraqi authorities… there is a very full effort going to find them as soon as possible.”
As Liberty Cannon reported yesterday, there have not yet been any claims of responsibility for the kidnappings. Kidnappings have in the past been performed by ISIS, local Shiite militias, and gangs seeking ransoms.
The kidnapping comes after a difficult week in terms of security in Iraq as ISIS has increased the number of attacks in the country’s capital.
