Former Guantanamo detainee Ibrahim al Qosi, is now a leader of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in Yemen. Also known as Sheik Khubayb al Sudani, Qosi was released as part of a plea deal in July 2012 and returned to his home country of Sudan. He was believed to be a cook of Osama Bin Laden.
The Long War Journal reports:
In July 2010, Qosi plead guilty to charges of conspiracy and material support for terrorism before a military commission. His plea was part of a deal in which he agreed to cooperate with prosecutors during his remaining time in US custody. Qosi was transferred to his home country of Sudan two years later, in July 2012.
Qosi was featured in a new video released by AQAP emphasizing the importance of following radical jihadist ideology. Long War Journal goes on to say that although the video doesn’t specifically mention ISIS ideology, it is clear that ISIS is being referenced.
This is the first time Qosi has appeared in jihadist propaganda media since his stay at Guantanamo.
